Cut Through by RedEyeLoon Cut Through by RedEyeLoon
Another piece from my "trees" series.
There was a lot of play with the lighting and creating a shady foreground.

This really is beautiful, the soft and multi shaded background is anything but simple yet has not been over complicated and still allowed the eyes to focus on the intricacies of the foreground tree or, the less prominent but no less detailed branches in the back.

Did you draw a pencil outline before painting?

Yes. It was very light, since I did a more detailed, shaded thumbnail sketch in my sketchbook. I had an idea of the composition I wanted. So the sketch was just an outline of the tree in the foreground and the land.

A lot of the background was improvised though.

Its great how you merge the more focused areas with the silhouettes, such a good balance.

Thanks!
Because I have a tendency to want to draw every little, exact detail, I'm trying more to work with silhouettes, shapes, and light.
